This is mostly relevant when the conversion target is an sdltb termbase. When you choose the content type Picklist for a field, a dialog pops up that asks you to specify the possible values. You have two choices:

  1. Fill in the possible picklist values, one per line. This is recommended if your source data may not contain all possible values, or if you want to verify if all the converted data matches your field definitions (i.e. if all values are valid)
  2. Leave the box empty and click OK. In that case, the picklist is automatically populated from the source data as it gets converted. Do this if you don't have a predefined termbase format and just need the values in your source data.

Example

You want to create a termbase that has a picklist with three possible status values:

  • new
  • deprecated
  • accepted

If your spreadsheet looks like this, use option 1, otherwise your new termbase would not allow the value new.

If, on the other hand, your spreadsheet looks like this, you can use option 2, since there is at least one example of each possible value.

Multiselection Picklists

In some formats, a picklist field can contain more than one value. When the Converter exports such a field. the values are separated by a picklist separator.

For example a column for Region may contain the values Asia,Europe,North America. If your picklist separator is set to be a slash, the column may look like this:

Asia/Europe
